When Jesus was born in Bethlehem
three sages came from the East.
And when they departed an angel appeared
to Joseph in his dreams:
Arise, and take the young child
and his mother, and flee into Egypt.
For Herod has vowed to destroy the child.
He murdered the infants of Bethlehem-
all of them. A great voice was heard,
lamentation, weeping and mourning.
Arise, and take the young child
and his mother, and flee into Egypt.
Now Herod is dead, and his son Archelaus
will reign in the room of his father,
and the sages have gone back in wonder
to distant lands, and an angel reappears:
Arise, and take the young child
and his mother, and go into the land of Israel.
