Program Note
Based on material from a suite composed in my teens, Sonatina's technical demands are belied by its simple, rhythmic themes presented in clear forms. The first movement unfolds in shifting and irregular meters. A songful middle movement is marked "Rather sad." The finale's folk-like tune is developed to culminate in a rather grand augmentation. The work was and is dedicated to my high-school friend, Nancy Morgan, a fine pianist who currently administers programs in New York City's Third Street Music School Settlement.
